What Do You Want to Create?

A lot of artist folks I speak to are always talking about what’s happening with them. Things like, “the galleries are not accepting many people,” “the bad economy is happening,” “lot of things are happening in my life now” and on and on and on.

The problem with this kind of life is that it’s a “happening to me world” – everything is happening to you. Your just reacting to all these “happenings” – you can see how weak and ineffective this is. There’s no power and no creativity there.

Also, wishing and hoping. “I hope this doesn’t happen” or “I wish this wouldn’t happen . . ” etc. etc – let’s put it this way – if your wishing and hoping your not in the present moment where all creativity happens. The secret? – Bring yourself back.

Back to your power and creativity. So what would be a good question to ask? How about this one:

What Do I Want to Create?

It’s a very powerful question to ask. It puts you back at the helm and in control of your own destiny.

And don’t be measured in this. Don’t allow yourself to think like “Gee, if I can increase my efficiency by 3% I can add $13 more dollars per month . . .” NO – create something that formally lived in the land of IMPOSSIBLE. Create an impossible project (see A Project versus a Dream)

We all have it in us but sometimes it’s just easier to flit about and Facebook and Twitter and do nothing of consequence because we have no focus.

A creative PROJECT will give you enthusiasm because it will move you outside your comfort zone. Realize a powerful creative project is supposed to make you nervous and scared and excited.

Like Ralph Waldo Emerson said:

“Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm”

Make a project out of it. Put dates and time frames and paper to it. Take it out of the land of hope, fantasy and dreams and create a set of deliverables with dates and times attached.

And create every day. Not just your art but your marketing, your relationships, your finances. So take some time and create an “impossible project” (or projects) for 2010.

And let me know how its going or if you need a little support along the way.
