My name is Doug Farrick and I’m an artist and entrepreneur. I have started and sold a number of online businesses, including Fresh Design and the Designer’s Inner Circle.
My latest venture is the Art Marketing Association, which I will be giving more details as we get closer to launch in early 2010. And recently, just wrote, shot, produced and edited my first DVD called, “An Introductory Guide to: Oil Painting Tools and Supplies”
I guess art has always been in my blood somehow. I always liked the solitude part of creating. Perhaps because I had three brothers and it was a way to get away from those little rascals.
I received my MFA in 1989 from Pratt Institute located in Brooklyn, New York. Being in NYC gives you access to such great sources – including people, museums, events – and, man, I really soaked it up. I was a museum junkie! (still am)
I ended up living in NYC for a number of years working for a few contemporary art galleries and also doing some studio assistant work for a number of high-profile contemporary artists.
A number of years later I ended up re-locating to Massachusetts where I veered more into commercial design and then later corporate consulting with companies like IBM, The Hartford, GE and Xerox.
The great thing about working for some of these major companies was really focusing on business operations and business systems – really understanding what it takes to create and run a successful business
But my passion is and always has been art and I’m pleased to be giving it a great deal of attention today – particularly the Art Marketing Association, which, by the way, will be a spectacular resource (unlike any other) with a full faculty and some amazing resources and information to help artists monetize their art and manage their careers more effectively.
This blog, DougFarrick.com is meant to share my passion of art. It will include posts on marketing for artists, artist profiles, art reviews, art and business and other observations that catch my eye.
Additionally, I have also done a good deal of coaching – mainly for small businesses and individuals looking to take their career to the next level. If you are interested in hearing more please contact me at the email below.
I would love to hear more about YOUR art business, your challenges and your successes. I am at your service. Please let me know how I can help.
